| Remember...always make backup copies of your templates. This tutorial assumes that you have basic experience using PSP. To view tutorials for texts effects, etc visit http://freesitetemplates.com/tpaintshop.html. |
This tutorial provides examples on using PSP candy wrapper templates, specifically the Raised Border template. But the basic principles apply to all the templates. We've made it a little easier by clearly labeling all the layers within the template file. |
Here's a quick summary of the steps to using this template:
- After opening the file we select the first layer to apply our background.
- Then we select the next layer to apply color to our text borders.
- Finally we select the last layer to add our text and use "Save As" to save the new design.
|
Before you begin:When you open a .psp layered file in Paint Shop Pro, a "Layer Palette" toolbar will appear somewhere on the screen. When you place your mouse over the toolbar, a listing of all layers will appear. Beside each listed layer will be a pair of sunglasses (Layer Visibility Toggle). When you click on the sunglasses, the selected layer will temporarily disappear. If you click on the sunglasses again, the layer will reappear. It is easiest to apply effects to each layer if the other layers are not visible. |
Step 1. You will begin by extracting your zipped template file to a directory on your hard drive. Then start the Paint Shop Pro program and open the candy wrapper template. Then select File > Open. At this point you should make a duplicate of the template to work on by pressing Shift + D, or remember to use the File > Save As feature after you've completed creating your new wrapper design to avoid saving your changes to the original file. |
Step 2. Click on "Layers" from the main menu. At the bottom are a listing of the layers inside the template. You will want to begin by selecting the first layer, Layer 1 which is the bottom layer of the template also known as the background.
Step 3. After selecting the Style for the foreground of your background (in this example we selected a saved pattern by holding our mouse down over the foreground Style selector),
Step 4. Use your Fill tool (the picture of the bucket dripping paint)
Step 5. and click inside the image to apply the background for your wrapper in the "background layer"
Step 6. Select the next layer for editing the border color
Step 7. We have chosen a solid color for the borders
Step 8. And used the Fill tool to change the white border color on both borders
Step 9. Finally, we select the Text Layer which is always the top, or very last layer in the template.
Step 10. And use the Text Tool
Step 11.Then position the Text Tool cursor inside the text border area
Step 12. then click to apply text
This pre-sized template has correctly aligned text boxes which are bordered with subtle 3D effects. In a matter of minutes, you can specify the background and border colors and be finished after adding your text. |
